This series wouldn’t be possible without those who’ve come forward to tell their stories. If you’ve got one to share, we’d love to hear from you… themenaustraliaforgot@gmail.com

We’ve got news! The recently launched Nasho News covers the latest developments for the Nashos of 64 to 72.

WHO ARE THEY?

Nickname: Nashos

Etymology: Comes from the term “National Servicemen”, the official title of Australia’s conscripts, who were forced to serve under the threat of imprisonment for up to two years between 1965 and 72.

Nasho Fair Go President Geoff Parkes says few people know who they are...

WHY THEM?

Fifty years ago, then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam abolished the National Service Scheme of 1964 to 1972, spelling the end of conscription for thousands of Nashos.

It was a tumultuous experience that changed their lives in many ways, sometimes irreparably so.

All these years later, many of them struggle to access the most basic veteran entitlements to help address unresolved physical and mental problems that conscription caused.

The Men Australia Forgot is here to give them a voice, tell their stories and share the latest news on their plight for reparation.
